Controllability of fire

Contact information

A building must be divided into fire compartments to keep a potential fire manageable. Typically, the maximum surface area of a fire compartment is 1000 m². In buildings with an industrial function, it is common to want to create a fire compartment larger than the “standard” 1000 m² for functional reasons.

When this is the case, the expected fire load can be used to assess up to what surface area and under what conditions a larger fire compartment can be accepted. The assessment is based on the “Fire Safety Concept: Controllability of Fire” (the calculation/decision model). Based on this model, it is often indeed possible to realize a larger fire compartment.
