Wind and flow forces play an important role in the design and operation of ships and offshore structures. This includes floating platforms, offshore installations, fish farms, and Wind Assisted Propulsion (WASP) systems, such as sails on cargo ships.
We study these forces and moments using wind tunnel measurements and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). This allows us to accurately visualize how structures behave under the influence of wind, waves, and currents. Based on this, we provide advice on optimal design, safety, stability, and efficiency.
Depending on the research question and the complexity of the project, we choose wind tunnel testing, CFD simulations, or a combination of both. Thanks to our extensive experience and specialized calculation models, we are able to realistically model and assess complex situations.
Through our research, we contribute directly to reliable, efficient, and safe designs for maritime and offshore applications.
