Wind nuisance and wind hazard

Contact information

High-rise buildings can experience strong winds, which can make the wind climate uncomfortable or even unsafe. This includes unpleasant wind at building corners or locations where cyclists struggle to stay upright. To prevent such situations, wind climate studies are conducted.

These studies examine how wind behaves in and around an area with new or existing buildings. We do this in accordance with the Dutch standard NEN 8100 Wind nuisance and wind danger in the built environment.

A wind climate study is preferably carried out early in the design process. This allows potential issues to be identified and addressed at an early stage.

We are uniquely positioned to apply both methods described in the standard:

  • A computational study based on Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)
  • A study in the wind tunnel

Each method has its own advantages. In addition to providing insight into the wind climate, we also offer explanations and advice, and where necessary, we work together to find appropriate mitigation measures.
