Light

Contact information

Daylight, in the right amount and colour, is essential for human functioning. Natural light controls primary life functions via our subconscious. It provides rhythm and recognition, but is different every day. The dynamics of daylight affect virtually every living organism on earth. Daylight influences our mood. We enjoy summer sunsets and “Dutch skies”, while grey days can make us feel down. Light determines how well we can orientate ourselves, whereby we unconsciously use ancient mechanisms stored in our DNA.

Function

To experience daylight to the fullest, we tailor it to specific activities. For working people, the computer screen is an important reference when it comes to the amount of light and its distribution. In a restaurant, it is fine for the sun to shine in. In a laboratory environment, the colour of a bacterial colony is best assessed in natural daylight. In a museum, it is about the influence of harmful radiation in daylight and the distribution of light over works of art.

Savings potential

Good daylight design leads to less use of artificial light. It represents enormous energy-saving potential. However, there is a tension with unwanted heat gain through daylight. This is precisely where our design capabilities come into their own.
