HVC and Warmtecoörporatie Maasdijk have built a geothermal station for sustainable heat generation at Lange Kruiswerf in Maasdijk. The Maasdijk geothermal source was commissioned on 1 March. The first doublet now supplies heat via the Warmtenetwerk Westland heat network, providing growers in the area with sustainable heat. The source was originally scheduled to be put into operation at the end of October 2024. However, due to a fire on site, the supply was shut down again in November. Following repair work and approval by the State Supervision of Mines (SodM), the source has now been officially put back into operation.

The sustainable heat from Maasdijk geothermal energy is now supplied to 26 growers. Once all three doublets are operational, this number will increase to around 80 growers. Together, they have a total of 500 hectares of greenhouses with vegetables, plants and flowers (comparable to 350 football pitches). This is equivalent to the gas consumption of more than 60,000 households. The project contributes significantly to making the greenhouse horticulture sector in the Westland region more sustainable and reducing COâ‚‚ emissions.
Since 2021, we have been involved in this project as consultants in the field of environmental noise. For the construction phase, during which the wells were drilled, we drew up noise prediction models and carried out noise measurements to assess the noise insulation of surrounding homes.
